Tucked away down a narrow alley in Stepney, Wilton’s is one of London’s many purpose-built music halls to remain in anything like its original form, and the sole survivor from the mid-Victorian era. Tim Ronalds Architects has recently completed the £3million refurbishment of the building, which now serves as a theatre and concert hall.  The practice has provided much-expanded front-of-house facilities while improving the technical performance of the auditorium. However, its guiding principle throughout the course of works, has been to do no more than essential - its aim being to preserve the elegantly disheveled atmosphere which makes Wilton’s such a uniquely evocative venue.
