Open Call for New Architects 4 Announced

Deadline: 23 April 2020

The Architecture Foundation is seeking applications for inclusion in New Architects 4, a major publication surveying the best British architectural practices established in the past ten years.

The book, which is the fourth in a highly influential series, will feature close to 100 practices, working across architecture, urban design, public space and related areas.

The selection of firms will be made by an expert jury comprising some of Britain’s most prominent architecture critics and clients.

Submission Criteria

We are seeking submissions from a wide range of practices of different sizes and backgrounds. To submit your practice for consideration you must meet the following criteria.

  • Be a member of The Architecture Foundation.
This can be a practice membership or an individual membership in the case of practices with under three staff.
  • Have started the practice after the 1st of January 2011.
We consider the start of a practice to be when the individuals involved began working together on their first project even if a formal company was not founded until later.
  • Have completed at least one built project.
The jury will consider the total output of the practice including unbuilt competition entries, research projects, exhibitions and other non-building work but the practice must have completed at least one built project at any scale to be considered for publication in New Architects 4.
  • Be based in the UK.
The practice may have worked anywhere in the world but must be based in the UK to be eligible for publication.
Please note: Practices do not necessarily need to be ARB or RIBA registered to be eligible for entry. If you have any queries about whether you are eligible please do not hesitate to get in touch on

How to submit

To put your practice forward for consideration please create an 8 page A4 pdf portfolio (portrait or landscape) showing a selection of work and submit it online with a written practice profile (400 words maximum). What you include in the portfolio is entirely up to you but we would encourage you to include a mix of photographs and drawings, which convey the best work of the practice. Please ensure the PDF name is the name of the practice and include a contact email address and phone number on the final page. If the practice is chosen for inclusion in the book we will contact you to obtain high resolution photography and architectural drawings.

Questions: If you have any queries about the entry process please do not hesitate to get in touch on

A jury of experienced architecture critics and clients will judge the submissions and decide which practices will go forward for publication. The Jury consists of:

Meneesha Kellay, Curator of Festival Programmes in Design, Architecture and Digital team at Victoria & Albert Museum

Crispin Kelly, Chief Executive of Baylight Properties
