2022 Open Call for Young Trustees

The Architecture Foundation’s Young Network is excited to announce an Open Call for four new young trustees to join its existing members

The Architecture Foundation’s Young Network is excited to announce an open call for four new young trustees to join its existing members. The AF Young Trustees exist alongside the Architecture Foundation specifically to celebrate lesser-known and emerging practitioners within the culture of architecture.

"As a group of active voices within the sector, we are not impartial! We are set up to discuss and advocate the changes our culture most vitally needs."

The role involves working with the AF’s core staff team and board of trustees on a variety of established and new initiatives, playing an increasingly crucial role in the foundation's programme. It also provides a platform to explore new formats for contributing to architectural culture. Most importantly, the role is defined by those who wish to take it on. Candidates should be enthusiastic and engaged, with ideas to pursue and a commitment to inclusiveness.

We particularly welcome applications from individuals from underrepresented groups, whether that be in terms of race, religion, social class, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic.

Applications must be received by Monday 18 April 2022 at 6pm. You can find out more about the current Young Trustees here.

Launch Event

There will be an opportunity for you to meet the current team in person at Diddy’s Bar on 12th April from 7PM to ask questions about the role and application process, or to get feedback on your ideas. We will also be available on Zoom at this time for you to ask questions digitally. Let us know whether you are coming digitally or in person here!

Application Process

To apply, send us a CV and answer a few questions, including outlining a project or idea you would bring to the role through our online application form. Applicants invited for interview should be available on Sunday 8th May for a digital interview.

The deadline for applications is Monday 18 April 2022 at 6pm.

Roles

We would like to recruit Trustees with a range of skills and interests, and have outlined suggested roles below. If you have a different skillset you feel would be of value, please let us know in the application form. Alongside these roles, all Young Trustees will engage in developing and delivering a public programme defined by the interests of the group collectively.

Communications

Responsible for the curation of existing platforms (Instagram) and for envisioning new ways of connecting with our audience. The role will also include writing and distributing content to promote the AFYT brand and our range of activities. Would be a plus if you are able to build a Wordpress.org/Squarespace website.

Direct Action & Campaigning

Responsible for helping us work towards our higher goal* through direct action, campaigns and advocacy. The role will include putting topical issues on the agenda of architectural discourse, as well as dissemination of information for the education of our audience. Promoting strategies and tactics for waging long-term change within architectural culture is key to this role.

*Our higher goal: celebrate lesser-known and emerging practitioners within the culture of architecture

Graphics/Branding

Responsible for implementing a consistent visual identity and branding for the AFYTs across platforms (social media, newsletters, etc.), as well as at physical events.

Programming & Event Curation

Responsible for envisioning new and dynamic formats for the AFYT annual programme and for events throughout the year. The role will also include creating opportunities for people in our networks to meet socially, and maintaining relationships and a database of available spaces.

Finances, Budgeting & Fundraising

The ambition is for the AFYTs to become a self-sustaining entity in its own right. The Trustee focusing on funding will need to establish goals: what could money be spent on, how might this help to develop the programme, and devise ways to raise money to meet these goals through sponsorship, fundraising, events etc.
