A new documentary by the CCCB explores The European Prize for Urban Public Space

The Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona have produced a documentary exploring the European model of a city and the use of its public space. Europa Ciudad (Europe City) features an interview with The AF's Director, Sarah Ichioka as well as interviews with other contributors including Manuel de Solà-Morales, Richard Sennett and Oriol Bohigas.

Looking at the winning works of the European Prize for Urban Public Space, for which The AF is the British partner, the film explores such questions as: Is there such a thing as a European idea of the city? What is left of the European model of the city? How do European cities cope with the increasing cultural diversity of their public spaces and how is the balance between public spaces and private spaces achieved today? Do our public spaces constitute places for claims on and exercise of democracy?

The film is availabe to watch in full here (30 min., in Spanish).

The European Prize for Urban Public Space is a biennial competition organised by six European institutions, including The AF, with the aim to recognise the most promising regeneration projects and encourage the defense of public space in our cities.
