New Windows on Willesden Green, one of the Mayor's Outer London Fund projects, is being delivered for Brent Council and Design for London by The Architecture Foundation in collaboration with Meanwhile Space and Blue Consulting. This project is an exciting opportunity to revive and improve Willesden High Road, bringing positive change to the area. The project runs from October 2011 to March 2012 and will be delivered in two phases.
From October to December a curated series of window animations were installed along the High Road marking the 25 days leading up to Christmas. Local shop-owners were paired with emerging designers to produce an advent calendar of window displays. In addition, a series of public events was held on 17-18 December. A dedicated flagship shop located at 45 Walm Lane is now open, communicating information on the project and future opportunities of how people can get involved. Opening times are Monday - Friday 2pm - 6pm.
The Architecture Foundation has now embarked upon the second phase of the project looking at reactivating vacant properties along Walm Lane and Willesden Green High Road. We are currently calling for those interested in taking up meanwhile residencies in the empty spaces we are able to secure.
We are looking for businesses, projects or individuals that can prove they:
- enhance the current high street offer
- are able to 'give back' to the local community
- are economically sustainable
- are accessible to local people
- adhere to a 'made or procured locally' ethos
All applicants must attend a Proposal Development Workshop - taking place on 28 Jan, 1 Feb, 7 Feb, 8 Feb - before they can submit a proposal. These workshops form part of the application process and only those who have attended at least one workshop will be invited to submit a proposal.
