Between The Bridges Urban Pioneers

June - September 2009

For its Summer 2009 Urban Pioneers education programme, Between the Bridges, The Architecture Foundation recruited a team of 16-19 year olds who critically explored the architecture along the south bank of the River Thames, between Tower Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge. Over ten days, the Urban Pioneers took part in film making, radio production, engineering and web design workshops; explored excellent architecture and beautifully designed public spaces and meet key people working in the area including architects, developers, planners, arts organisations and community groups.

Their research culminated in a launch event at The Architecture Foundation's project space to launch the Pioneers' website.

Summer 2009's Urban Pioneers project looked at the architecture along the south bank of the Thames between Blackfriars and Tower bridges. Pioneers took part in illustration, engineering, radio production, planting, mapping, filmmaking and urban design workshops, and documented the project via the blog on their new website.
