Exhibition Evening: The Fabric of the City

Thurs 9 Dec 2010 6.30-10pm

Join The Architecture Foundation at the Barbican, and delve into the word of Japanese fashion through an exploration of its urban context, and design dialogue with the UK. An evening of extra content and contexts, as the AF animates the Barbican's Future Beauty exhibition.

The evenings events are to include a rare screening of Iain Overton'sMr Smith Takes a Short Trip to Tokyo - an 'Alice in Wonderland'-esque exploration of Tokyo's modern architecture which will be screening continuously throughout the evening. Plus visuals from graphic designers, Designers Republic, whose recycling and transformation of Japanese typography, manga and typography through their studio in Sheffiled, led to a new, influential and much imitated graphic language, and a DJ set from Pierre LX.

In addition, we are happy to annouce that acclaimed Japanese architect and exhibition designer of Future Beauty, Sou Fujimoto, will lead a tour of the exhibition from 6:30-7pm, in conversation with author of New Architecture in Japan, Yuki Sumner

Spaces for the Gallery Tour with Sou Fujimoto are strictly limited to 20 people, and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. A sign-up sheet will be available on the Gallery front desk, Level 3, from 6pm on the day of the event.

Mr Smith Takes a Short Trip to Tokyo will play in the exhibition from 7-8pm with audio, before running on a silent loop, soundtracked by Pierre LX, for the duration of the evening.
