Adam Caruso and Thomas Demand
2 November 2009, 7.00pm
Adam Caruso and Thomas Demand
Chaired by Alex Farquharson, Director, Nottingham Contemporary
Architects Caruso St John and artist Thomas Demand have a long-standing history of collaboration. Following the exhibition design and film screening structures Caruso St John have produced for numerous Demand exhibitions - notably installations in Venice and at the Fondation Cartier, Paris - Demand is now making a quietly political contribution to the architects’ public space project for Zurich.
Within Caruso St John's urban square, Demand has designed a building modelled on the infamous Nail House in Chongqing, China, whose owners fought an unsuccessful three year battle against developers’ plans for demotion. A focus on the reciprocal contributions possible between architectural and artistic disciplines.
