Real Architecture 2006: Wilkinson Eyre presents New Town West Tower, China

13 Dec 2006 7pm
  • New Town West Tower, China, Wilkinson Eyre Architects

At 437.5 metres, Guangzhou Zhujiang’s New Town West Tower is set to be one of the tallest buildings in the world, and the tallest in China upon completion in 2009. The twin towers will mark Guangzhou Zhujiang New Town’s main axis, linking the commercial district in the north with the cultural district and the Pearl River to the south. Wilkinson Eyre, in collaboration with Arup, has developed a slender design, which prioritises environmental and financial efficiency. The major design work is being led from London, with design teams based in China and the UK. The project is part of the city’s ongoing regeneration in preparation for the 2010 Asian Games.
