Old Street urban proposal

SLOW SPACE
Our strategy is to superimpose a ribbon of SLOW SPACE onto Old Street like an undulating carpet, in a network of public spaces, using different scales of intervention to reconcile the conflicting urban fragments of existing buildings and infrastructures. SLOW SPACE makes it easy to walk and to linger. It will characterise the region as a destination, widening the pedestrian’s domain, aligning local residents and workers. Its elements include a transport interchange with a bus terminus; Old Street split into slowed and crossable lanes; a linear urban wood; the ‘circus’ changed to a square; public programmes of cafes, temporary markets etc, and a landmark ‘tower’ – all to sustain urban life.
