The aim is to create a dynamic civic space for all the community, with a strong sense of ‘ownership’. The pedestrian environment is improved by controlling wind speeds, reducing perceived noise/air pollution levels through a series of walls and improving air circulation through tree removal. The walls reduce the impact of vehicular traffic and segregate movement allowing direct flow of pedestrians/cycles along the road with safer indirect movement within the main space. A simple treatment, with an integrated palette and arrangement of paving, lighting, cycle/motorcycle parking, signage and seating, reduces clutter and creates a sense of place and calm.
