New New Town:
What the past can teach the future
20 - 21 Feburary 2008
The UK is currently seeing the growth of new settlements at a large scale,
both under construction and proposed, in response to a need for new homes
identified by government as running into the millions. The consequences
of the hugely ambitious British New Towns programme, launched by the New
Towns Act of 1946, will be examined in this international symposium alongside
exemplars in continental Europe today.

Generation Award
A new award, launched by The Architecture Foundation
and Pipers, is set to bring a fresh generation of British architectural
talent to the design of commercial buildings.

Travel Award 2006
KPF Architects is sponsoring a new travel scholarship for British architecture
students, organised by the Architecture Foundation. Over the next 5 years,
annual travel awards of £1000 and £750 will be given to two
students with outstanding insight into the possibilities of public space
design.
Venice
SuperBlog
In collaboration with MoMA's Department
of Architecture and Design, Venice SuperBlog was broadcast from the Venice
Architecture Biennale 2006. It is an exciting forum for the exchange of
ideas and insider information with contributions from some of the world's
leading architects, critics and curators.
Changing London
Schools
The Architecture Foundation launches its Changing London Schools competition
on the 13 April to select educational projects in the inner London Boroughs
to be showcased in an exhibition during the London Architecture Biennale
(16-25 June 2006) at BDP’s hub space.
Lift New Parliament
The Architecture Foundation and Lift, London International Festival of
Theatre, have launched an open international competition to design the
Lift New Parliament, a transportable meeting and performance space.

Old Street?
We received 75 entries for the competition. The Jury selected a shortlist
of 5 for interview and then selected Tonkin Liu as the winning design
team. The first stage of the Promenade of Light is complete and has been
shortlisted for the Prime Minister's Award for Better Public Buildings.
Stratford
Pride
An ambitious programme of public engagement in the shaping of Stratfords
new public realm. It will provide a structured framework of activities
that allow a two-way process of education and exchange to develop over
time between the community of Stratford and the design team.
