Internships

About the Programme

Our internship programme offers an opportunity to be part of the AF team, and to gain work experience and skills within a leading cultural organisation. The Architecture Foundation is keen to encourage applications from people from all backgrounds including race, disability, gender, faith and sexual orientation.

Details of our current internship programmes - including how to apply - are listed below. Due to the number of enquiries we receive, we do not contact unsuccessful applicants.

Internships are voluntary, with a modest stipend for expenses.

Curatorial / LFA2012 Interns

The Architecture Foundation is looking for two dedicated interns to aid in the delivery of its exciting, varied and busy programme through July 2012.

The Architecture Foundation hosts a wide variety of exhibitions and events dedicated to broadening architectural discourse, with a focus upon international, interdisciplinary and emerging practice and thought.

Events, both hosted within the AF’s Project Space in Southwark, London, and with institutional partners such as Tate Modern and the Barbican Centre, take the form of film screenings, presentations by architects, artists and members of a wide range of related disciplines, chaired discussions and more. The AF Project Space also hosts a programme of exhibitions and installations.

In addition to our regular programme of activities, the London Festival of Architecture will take place this summer (23 June - 8 July 2012), with a city-wide series of events responding to the theme of ‘The Playful City’. As one of four key delivery partners, the AF will be concentrating its energies in Southwark (focus weekend: 23-24 June) and the King’s Cross area (focus weekend: 7-8 July). The appointed interns will be heavily involved in facilitating the AF’s involvement in the Festival, from the initial planning stages, through to delivery and evaluation.

The appointed Curatorial intern will also be closely involved with the AF’s Online Archive which has recently gone live on our website and features documentation of the AF’s past 20 years of pioneering work in discussing, displaying, and affecting architecture and urban culture. The archive will continue to be improved and supplemented with further multimedia throughout the year, and it will be the role of the Curatorial Intern to assist with this.

For further information of the two roles and details of how to apply, please see our full job description.

An Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form must be completed and returned with all internship applications.

* These are two new positions and we will be looking for the appointed Interns to start at the beginning of March 2012. *

Please note – The Architecture Foundation is a charity dedicated to the public display and discussion of architecture in its social and cultural contexts. As it is not an architectural practice, applicants seeking work experience in architectural design per se are encouraged to direct their applications elsewhere.
